How do you install a garbage disposal?

Installing an InSinkErator® garbage disposal is a straightforward process for any handy person or plumber. The video on our installation videos page explains exactly what you need to do from start to finish and there are also some comprehensive instructions that come in the box.

You'll need these tools:

  • A phillips screwdriver
  • A pipe wrench
  • Pliers
  • Safety goggles

Past disposers have had a lower mounting ring that spins. Why is the lower mounting ring on my new disposer stationary?

Our new Lift & Latch disposers have a stationary ring with a small notch to make installation easier. This small adjustment allows you to simply lift the disposer and make a slight turn to have the tabs latch over the ridges on the slide-up ramps, instead of continually turning until the tabs lock.
